Class of '64 Mini-Reunion Photo Album!

Bob Pranis has set up a wonderful album of the weekend and included contributions from others. In a labor of love, Bob has cropped and done tonal and color adjustments on all the photos, and they look great!  Each photo is labeled by its photographer, and they are in roughly chronological order beginning on Friday.

You can access the album here: http://bpranis.smugmug.com/Events/KE64-Reunion. Just click on this link. (If for some reason the link doesn't work, copy the link and paste it into URL box at the top of your browser, then hit "Enter.") This will take you to the Class of 1964 Reunion photowebsite. Click on either the group photo or "KE 64 2010 Reunion" to access the album.

Once you are there, you can do lots of great things.

1. Slideshow: The slideshow button is at the far upper right. Click it and your slideshow will begin, with the pictures appearing full-screen size. There are over 100 pictures already and we want more photos! More on that later.

2. View individual photos. When you first enter the album, you will find thumbnails of every photo on the left half of your screen with the photo "selected" enlarged at the right. You can click directly on any small thumbnail and it will appear in the large display pane to the right.

Above the thumbnails, you will see it says "Page 1 of x." This means that there are x pages of thumbnails. To get to the next page of thumbnails, click "Next." Use the double arrows to go to the last or first page.

3. View individual photos in full screen mode. First click on the photo you want to see so that it appears in the panel to the right. Then double click on the larger photo (not the thumbnail) and it will come up in the full-screen mode.

At the top is a link bar so that you can move forward or backward through the photos in this mode. If you click on the "O" link it will show the photos in the Original size Bob used, which is 1280x1024 pixels.

You can return to the previous screen with thumbnail shots on the left and a larger one on the right by using the browser window’s back arrow, usually in top most left for PC users.  You Mac guys are used to translating PC instructions, so do your thing

4. Mouseover Menu - When you put your mouse on the larger photo in the right display panel, a menu will appear over the photo. This menu has a number of choices to help you either view or save the picture.

--You can rank a picture as to whether or not you like it. (The help link appears to be related to the ranking process vs. the photo application itself.)

--The "photo size" options are useful if you want to save the selected shot. If you want to edit the photo once it’s saved on your PC, select "Original." This would be recommended if you want to print a shot. If you just want to store the shot on your computer or use it in an e-mail, the small or medium size should be fine.

-- If you pick the "Save" option when you select a size, or if you pick the "Save Photo" folder at the bottom of the mouseover menu, you’ll see a file download window, which will ask, "Do you want to open or save this file?" If you pick "Save," another window will appear allowing you to save the photo on your computer. This window will often have you in the last place you saved something. If that’s not where you want the picture to be saved, use either the "up" arrow or the "drop down" to navigate to the place you keep photos and save it there.

Suggestion: Give the picture a name you’ll remember to help you find it again. Do that by clicking in the name box at the bottom of the "save" window and typing the name there.

5. Another option to save photos to your own computer: Follow step 3 to get into the full screen mode and the original size. To save in the original size, right click the photo in the original size and choose "save image as" from the drop down menu. Now you can choose where you want to save it, as described above.

These photos are about 300Kb each. Note that you must save photos one at a time, you cannot download all of them at once.

We want your photos! If you have photos to add to this great album, please email them to Bob Pranis at bpranis@northlc.com. Please note that is the letter "l" not the numeral "1" in his address. Bob will take your photos and work them into the album. Clicking the link you see above should open your e-mail with Bob’s address already there.

Thanks Bob!!

Editor’s note: We tried to make the instructions complete but like most things electronic, it can get a little weird.  If you need help doing something in the photo album, e-mail me and I’ll try to help.

Countdown to KE '64's 50th in 2014!

A countdown clock has been created for our 50th reunion in mid-summer 2014. We can't find a way to make it appear in the email subscriptions. Therefore, it has been installed as a permanent feature at the top of the site.

Go to the blog at http://ke64.blogspot.com/ to see the timer. At this writing, we are at 4 years, 2 months, and 1 week to a mid-summer reunion in 2014.

Everything You Need to Know About Saturday Night!

Your intrepid reporters have discovered the following information about the Saturday night KE 50th Anniversary Celebration. This applies to the night after our reunion:

>>Attire for the evening is business casual. That's about one step up from your attire for our renuion on Friday night.

>>There will be a cash bar available all evening.

>>The event begins at 5:30 pm. When you arrive at the convention center you will come in the main entrance and turn in your ticket to one of the volunteers. You MUST have your ticket to get in the door. Tickets were either e-mailed to the address you provided to the KE 50th organizers, or they were mailed to your home address. If you don't have a ticket, phone Krystal Dziomba at 716-868-7010, or email her at ke50th@hotmail.com immediately.

>>Once you get in the doors you will proceed to the check-in table where you will receive your name badge, table place card, and parking pass.

>>Parking pass?? A double-secret benefit of the Saturday night event is that parking is included in the cost of your ticket. You are allowed to park in the Fernbach Parking Ramp at Court & Pearl. This is the ONLY ramp you can park in for free. When you pull into the lot, let the attendant know you are with the KE 50th Anniversary Celebration. They will then allow you to park. When you leave the Convention Center after the event, you MUST present the attendant with your ticket. If you do not, you will be charged for having parked in the lot. So make sure you get a parking pass, and make sure you give it to the attendant in the lot on your way out.

>>There are 99 tables set up for the Saturday night event. The organizers have attempted to accomodate requests to sit together, but there are no guarantees, especially if only 6 or fewer of you requested same-table seating. A total of 55 tables are “reserved.” When you check in and get your table place card, you will find out whether you are at a reserved table or in “open seating.”

>>A word to the wise from your intrepid reporters: Check your seating arrrangements as soon as you get your table place card--compare your card to the cards of those you were planning to sit with. If things don't look right, RUN into the convention center and take squatters' rights over a table for you and your friends. Just a friendly suggestion.

>>The table assignments are just for dinner. Once dinner is over, you are free to walk around and mingle with everyone else. In fact, we bet you can walk around even during dinner, although this has not ben confirmed with Security. What HAS been confirmed is that Security will NOT allow unpaid guests to come in once dinner is over and enjoy dancing/drinks. This event is only open to those who paid.

>>Downstairs in the ballroom there will be the Kenmore East Jazz Band playing from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm as well as bars available.

>>Upstairs in the main ballroom is where most of the action of the evening will take place. Bring your camera, some of the "action" may be worth photographing.

Everything You Need to Know About the Reunion!

Yikes! The reunion is THIS FRIDAY!! It's time to sum up everything specific you need to know about it.
  • The KE Class of 1964 Mini-Reunion will be this Friday evening, May 7, 2010.
  • It will be at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo, located at Two Fountain Plaza, Buffalo NY. The hotel is attached by walkway to the Buffalo Convention Center.
  • The reunion will be in the Delaware Suite of the hotel. The room will be set up with round tables, high-tops, and enough seating for everybody. There will be plenty of room to move around and even to dance if anybody wants to.
  • Doors will open at 6:40 PM. We have the room all night and on into the next morning.
  • There will be a cash bar. It will have cocktails, beer, champagne, wine, sodas, juices, and water.
  • There will be limited, basic snacks throughout the evening--chips, pretzels, veggies, cheese platters, cookies. It's not a dinner, so have a nice dinner before you come.
  • Dress is casual (or less).
  • We will have age-appropriate music, but not a band or DJ.
  • There are no tickets or admission fees. We do have to cover the food, room-rental fees, hotel service charges, and taxes. We will have a large glass bowl out, and we ask you to toss $10 per person into the bowl to help defray these expenses.
  • We will provide nametags for everyone that we know about. If you are coming and have not notified us, please contact either Ron or Dave at the email addresses shown above. At the present moment, we have 48 classmates and 20 guests signed up.
A great time is expected! The Class of '64 knows how to party! If there are other strays out there, invite them--there is no deadline on making the decision to attend!

See you all on Friday night!
