Bob Pranis has set up a wonderful album of the weekend and included contributions from others. In a labor of love, Bob has cropped and done tonal and color adjustments on all the photos, and they look great! Each photo is labeled by its photographer, and they are in roughly chronological order beginning on Friday.
You can access the album here: http://bpranis.smugmug.com/Events/KE64-Reunion. Just click on this link. (If for some reason the link doesn't work, copy the link and paste it into URL box at the top of your browser, then hit "Enter.") This will take you to the Class of 1964 Reunion photowebsite. Click on either the group photo or "KE 64 2010 Reunion" to access the album.
Once you are there, you can do lots of great things.
1. Slideshow: The slideshow button is at the far upper right. Click it and your slideshow will begin, with the pictures appearing full-screen size. There are over 100 pictures already and we want more photos! More on that later.
2. View individual photos. When you first enter the album, you will find thumbnails of every photo on the left half of your screen with the photo "selected" enlarged at the right. You can click directly on any small thumbnail and it will appear in the large display pane to the right.
Above the thumbnails, you will see it says "Page 1 of x." This means that there are x pages of thumbnails. To get to the next page of thumbnails, click "Next." Use the double arrows to go to the last or first page.
3. View individual photos in full screen mode. First click on the photo you want to see so that it appears in the panel to the right. Then double click on the larger photo (not the thumbnail) and it will come up in the full-screen mode.
At the top is a link bar so that you can move forward or backward through the photos in this mode. If you click on the "O" link it will show the photos in the Original size Bob used, which is 1280x1024 pixels.
You can return to the previous screen with thumbnail shots on the left and a larger one on the right by using the browser window’s back arrow, usually in top most left for PC users. You Mac guys are used to translating PC instructions, so do your thing
4. Mouseover Menu - When you put your mouse on the larger photo in the right display panel, a menu will appear over the photo. This menu has a number of choices to help you either view or save the picture.
--You can rank a picture as to whether or not you like it. (The help link appears to be related to the ranking process vs. the photo application itself.)
--The "photo size" options are useful if you want to save the selected shot. If you want to edit the photo once it’s saved on your PC, select "Original." This would be recommended if you want to print a shot. If you just want to store the shot on your computer or use it in an e-mail, the small or medium size should be fine.
-- If you pick the "Save" option when you select a size, or if you pick the "Save Photo" folder at the bottom of the mouseover menu, you’ll see a file download window, which will ask, "Do you want to open or save this file?" If you pick "Save," another window will appear allowing you to save the photo on your computer. This window will often have you in the last place you saved something. If that’s not where you want the picture to be saved, use either the "up" arrow or the "drop down" to navigate to the place you keep photos and save it there.
Suggestion: Give the picture a name you’ll remember to help you find it again. Do that by clicking in the name box at the bottom of the "save" window and typing the name there.
5. Another option to save photos to your own computer: Follow step 3 to get into the full screen mode and the original size. To save in the original size, right click the photo in the original size and choose "save image as" from the drop down menu. Now you can choose where you want to save it, as described above.
These photos are about 300Kb each. Note that you must save photos one at a time, you cannot download all of them at once.
We want your photos! If you have photos to add to this great album, please email them to Bob Pranis at bpranis@northlc.com. Please note that is the letter "l" not the numeral "1" in his address. Bob will take your photos and work them into the album. Clicking the link you see above should open your e-mail with Bob’s address already there.
Thanks Bob!!
Editor’s note: We tried to make the instructions complete but like most things electronic, it can get a little weird. If you need help doing something in the photo album, e-mail me and I’ll try to help.

Everything You Need to Know About Saturday Night!
Your intrepid reporters have discovered the following information about the Saturday night KE 50th Anniversary Celebration. This applies to the night after our reunion:
>>Attire for the evening is business casual. That's about one step up from your attire for our renuion on Friday night.
>>There will be a cash bar available all evening.
>>The event begins at 5:30 pm. When you arrive at the convention center you will come in the main entrance and turn in your ticket to one of the volunteers. You MUST have your ticket to get in the door. Tickets were either e-mailed to the address you provided to the KE 50th organizers, or they were mailed to your home address. If you don't have a ticket, phone Krystal Dziomba at 716-868-7010, or email her at ke50th@hotmail.com immediately.
>>Once you get in the doors you will proceed to the check-in table where you will receive your name badge, table place card, and parking pass.
>>Parking pass?? A double-secret benefit of the Saturday night event is that parking is included in the cost of your ticket. You are allowed to park in the Fernbach Parking Ramp at Court & Pearl. This is the ONLY ramp you can park in for free. When you pull into the lot, let the attendant know you are with the KE 50th Anniversary Celebration. They will then allow you to park. When you leave the Convention Center after the event, you MUST present the attendant with your ticket. If you do not, you will be charged for having parked in the lot. So make sure you get a parking pass, and make sure you give it to the attendant in the lot on your way out.
>>There are 99 tables set up for the Saturday night event. The organizers have attempted to accomodate requests to sit together, but there are no guarantees, especially if only 6 or fewer of you requested same-table seating. A total of 55 tables are “reserved.” When you check in and get your table place card, you will find out whether you are at a reserved table or in “open seating.”
>>A word to the wise from your intrepid reporters: Check your seating arrrangements as soon as you get your table place card--compare your card to the cards of those you were planning to sit with. If things don't look right, RUN into the convention center and take squatters' rights over a table for you and your friends. Just a friendly suggestion.
>>The table assignments are just for dinner. Once dinner is over, you are free to walk around and mingle with everyone else. In fact, we bet you can walk around even during dinner, although this has not ben confirmed with Security. What HAS been confirmed is that Security will NOT allow unpaid guests to come in once dinner is over and enjoy dancing/drinks. This event is only open to those who paid.
>>Downstairs in the ballroom there will be the Kenmore East Jazz Band playing from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm as well as bars available.
>>Upstairs in the main ballroom is where most of the action of the evening will take place. Bring your camera, some of the "action" may be worth photographing.

Everything You Need to Know About the Reunion!
Yikes! The reunion is THIS FRIDAY!! It's time to sum up everything specific you need to know about it.
- The KE Class of 1964 Mini-Reunion will be this Friday evening, May 7, 2010.
- It will be at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo, located at Two Fountain Plaza, Buffalo NY. The hotel is attached by walkway to the Buffalo Convention Center.
- The reunion will be in the Delaware Suite of the hotel. The room will be set up with round tables, high-tops, and enough seating for everybody. There will be plenty of room to move around and even to dance if anybody wants to.
- Doors will open at 6:40 PM. We have the room all night and on into the next morning.
- There will be a cash bar. It will have cocktails, beer, champagne, wine, sodas, juices, and water.
- There will be limited, basic snacks throughout the evening--chips, pretzels, veggies, cheese platters, cookies. It's not a dinner, so have a nice dinner before you come.
- Dress is casual (or less).
- We will have age-appropriate music, but not a band or DJ.
- There are no tickets or admission fees. We do have to cover the food, room-rental fees, hotel service charges, and taxes. We will have a large glass bowl out, and we ask you to toss $10 per person into the bowl to help defray these expenses.
- We will provide nametags for everyone that we know about. If you are coming and have not notified us, please contact either Ron or Dave at the email addresses shown above. At the present moment, we have 48 classmates and 20 guests signed up.
See you all on Friday night!

We've Outgrown Our Room!
The growing excitement over the Mini-Reunion has been so strong that we have decided, after consulting with the Hyatt, to move into a larger room. The new room is the Delaware Suite. The picture below shows the room set up for a conference. We will have it set up for a party, with a bar, conventional tables and chairs, high-top tables, etc. We will be more comfortable with the larger space, and now we can accomodate even more late responders, who continue to turn up almost daily.
See you at 6:40 on Friday, May 7th...just 17 days away!!

FAQ!
Q: Is the Class of '64 Mini-Reunion the same as the "Decade Gathering" for the Class of 1964?
A: No! The Mini-Reunion is for Class of '64 graduates + their invited guests. The Decade Gathering is for all classes of the 1960's. The Mini-Reunion will be at the Hyatt in downtown Buffalo. The Decade Gathering will be at the Tap Room on Eggert Road, which some of you may remember as the former Park Edge Supermarket.
Q: Will there be nametags? I am not sure I will recognize anyone!
A: Yes. We understand the problem. Both appearance and eyesight have changed since 1964. Nametags will be provided, in fact, they will be mandatory.
Q: How many people are attending the Mini-Reunion?
A: We may have to drop "Mini" from the title. As of today, with 18 days to go, we have about 41 Class of '64 attendees. With their guests, we are at a total attendance of about 56. Everyone from the Class of '64 is invited, and responses continue to dribble in. If you know a Class of '64 graduate who is not (yet) coming, please encourage them to attend.
Q: Is there a deadline for signing up?
A: No. Come at the last minute if you like. You will have to fill out your nametag by hand, however, so we are encouraging everybody who plans to come to let us know in advance.
Q: Will there be drinking at the Mini-Reunion?
A: Yes. There will be a cash bar. As with nametags, we may make drinking mandatory. What's a reunion without drinking?
Q: What time does the Mini-Reunion start?
A: 6:40. (Duh.)
Q: When does it end?
A: "quarter to three"
Q: Will there be food at the Mini-Reunion?
A: There will be limited snacks. Everyone is encouraged to have a nice dinner before coming.
Q: Will there be tables?
A: Yes. And chairs.
Q: Are some people attending both the Decade Gathering and the Mini-Reunion?
A: Yes. A suggestion would be to go to the Decade Gathering first, then come to the Mini-Reunion. Or vice-versa.
Q: Is there a list of people attending the Saturday night dinner (aka Gala Jubilee Celebration, "Forever Young")?
A: Yes. Click here.

Deadline for Saturday Tickets EXTENDED!
Your intrepid reporters have been informed that the deadline for submitting ticket requests for the KE 50th Anniversary Jubilee Dinner has been extended by a week, to April 9. Apparently there is a late flood of ticket requests, so the deadline has been extended.
Use the golden link to the left to get to the KE 50th website, and follow the links there to get your tickets if you have not already done so. Let's get everybody from the Class of '64 mini-reunion on Friday night to also attend the dinner on Saturday!
The KE website also contains information about other KE 50 events, including a 5k run, golf, and the like. If you are interested in the run, scroll down three items to the "George Wants You" entry posted on March 25. George Constantino is looking for others to join him in the 5k, which is in honor of Lou Reuter.

George Wants You!
Here's a message from our class President -
Hi Ron, I have decided to sign up for the Lou Reuter Scholarship 5k Run. I remember when Mr. Reuter first came to our area and came up to our baseball team, as we were practicing, and asking us if he could work out with us. Little did we know that he would make such a big impact on our school and the area. He seemed to have an attitude of just do it. In honor of him I am going to run this special event and I know he will be there in spirit. If there is a way to mention this in one of your post I would like to ask others to join with me from our class of '64. Just to do it! Thank you George Constantino.
e-mail George if you'd like to participate in the run to honor Lou Reuter. Go get'm Pres.

Room Identified for Reunion
It looks like we will have about 40 people at the reunion (best guess as of today). Based on that, we have selected the Ellicott Room at the Hyatt for the party. It is a meeting room (not a private suite), so we don't have to worry about disturbing other guests nor with how late we par-tay. The picture shows it set up for a business meeting. Screw that. We will have it arranged with high-top and conventional tables and chairs, plus a bar at one end. It should suit our purposes perfectly!!

Top Hits of 1963
Ahh, 1963. End of junior year, beginning of senior year. Many of us began making adult decisions--about college, about love, about careers. We got our drivers' licenses. In Tom Brokaw's book, Boom!: Talking About the Sixties, he says that what we now think of as "The Sixties" really began with John Kennedy's assassination in November, 1963 and ended with Nixon's resignation in 1974. The social consciousness we associate with that decade was just getting under way. Not much social consciousness was reflected in the top songs of 1963. They were standard rock'n'roll songs about the usual teenage stuff.
1. The Ronettes, "Be My Baby"-- Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" production is on full display. Ronnie Bennett, the lead singer, would later marry Spector. Wonder how that worked out?
2. The Kingsmen, "Louie, Louie"-- A frat-rock classic. Were the lyrics dirty? Who knows? Nobody could understand them.
3. The Crystals, "Da Doo Ron Ron"-- Session singer Dolores Brooks sings the lead after Crystal Darlene Love angered producer Phil Spector and was removed from the recording.
4. The Chiffons, "One Fine Day"-- Carole King had cut this as a demo of her songwriting. The Chiffons got the nod and created this irresistable summer single. King cut it two decades later and enjoyed a modest hit.
5. Stevie Wonder, "Fingertips Pt. 2"-- Everybody say YEAH! A few years ago, I won a trivia contest by knowing that this was Stevie Wonder's first hit. I was introduced to it by Jack Wallen, who played it for me when we walked home together from a summer Drivers' Ed. session.
6. Roy Orbison, "In Dreams"
7. The Drifters, "Up On The Roof"-- Another Goffin-King hit straight from the Brill Building.
8. The Surfaris, "Wipe Out"
9. The Four Seasons, "Walk Like A Man"-- Recorded in a building that was, at that time, on fire. (It's true; look it up.)
10. Lesley Gore, "It's My Party"-- The ubiquitous Phil Spector was about to record this with the Crystals, but Gore beat him to it.

Information About Decade Event Is Leaking Out (Exclusive Report)
For your information, we have learned that the "decade event" for the 1960's in connection with KE's 50th anniversary celebration will be held at the Buffalo Tap Room (formerly the Park Edge Grocery), located at Eggert and Sheridan. We are still intending to go forward with the Class of '64 mini-reunion at the Hyatt.
This is an exclusive report. A different source has told us that there will be publicity about the Park Edge event, but this could not be confirmed as of press time.
Ron is inviting all Park Edge alumni to comment on their experiences there. Either leave a comment below, or save it for a small discussion group within the mini-reunion.

Top Hits of 1962
In 1962, we finished sophomore year and in September began our junior year. Here were some of the top hits of the year.
1. Little Eva, "The Loco-Motion"
1962 rock and roll featured a lot of Girl Groups and Dance Crazes, and this fabulous single was a highwater mark of both genres. A legendary Goffin-King composition, created before there was a dance of the same name. Originally written for Dee Dee Sharp. Those are the Cookies on backup.
2. The Crystals, "He's A Rebel"
Phil Spector begins his Wall of Sound producing on this Gene Pitney composition. Darlene Love is here backed by a group called the Blossoms; the actual Crystals are nowhere to be found.
3. Dion, "The Wanderer"
The former Belmonts singer moves out of doo-wop.
4. Sam Cooke, "Having A Party" b/w "Bring It On Home To Me"
The year's greatest two-sided hit.
5. Elvis Presley, "Can't Help Falling In Love"
6. Booker T. and the MGs, "Green Onions"
MG stood for "Memphis Group." The MG's were Stax's house band.
7. Gene Chandler, "Duke Of Earl"
Who can forget "Dook Dook Dook Dook of Earl"? A late-period doo-wop classic.
8. Ray Charles, "I Can't Stop Loving You"
9. The Four Seasons, "Big Girls Don't Cry"
The group's second hit, following "Sherry." Highlighted by Frankie Valli's falsetto turns.
10. The Contours, "Do You Love Me"
Few remember this as one of Motown's big early hits. Yet it was: Berry Gordy had written this for the Temptations, but when they ran late, the Contours got the nod instead.

Hello Class of '64!
Hi all,
Ron and I have set up this blog for the Friday reunion event. We'll use it to keep everyone up to date on what's happening. Please use the subscription box underneath the Bulldog to subscribe. That way, you will receive an email whenever there's a new posting, so you won't need to keep re-checking the site. (If there's no new post on a given day, you get no email that day.)
Use the Comment function to leave a comment/reply/suggestion. We're particularly interested in ideas on how to use it, features you think would be worthwhile, and the like.
Play around with the Comment function, have some fun with it.
